Sister Sistah

Book Club News
Sister, Sistah Book Club was started in September, 1997.  The founder, Vaunda Ingram, had a vision which she shared with a few friends from church and college to broaden their repertoire of reading materials for knowledge and leisure.

The first meetings were held at restaurants but as the membership grew the members wanted a more intimate setting and started meeting at the home of the hostess for the month.  After several more years the membership grew from six (6) to now sixteen (16) and the monthly meetings returned to a restaurant setting.

Over the years, we have become close friends, travel companions and each others confidants – lending a friendly ear or a shoulder to cry on.

The book club has read a myriad of books including fiction, non-fiction, self help and autobiographies by many different authors – both locally and abroad.  Over the years, we have had a few of the authors attend our meetings and afford us the opportunity to ask about their writing style, process and other poignant questions.

We were honored (no pun intended) during the April monthly meeting to be joined by author, (Honorable) Judge Washington, to discuss our selection “Misjudged.”

Misjudged

MISJUDGED

In her debut novel, Misjudged, Susan Washington gives her readers an insider’s view of some of the challenges of wearing a black robe. Judge Suzanne Vincent was a rising star at her Atlanta law firm when she was tapped to serve on the Atlanta District Court. Now she presides over the Family Docket where she rarely takes a break from the dysfunctional families that lawyers constantly dump into her judicial lap. Her chief judge wants her off the bench. Suzanne’s effort to keep her seat forces her to deal publicly with what some call her record of misjudgment. Suzanne isn’t spared her own personal drama. Her grandmother’s unseemly death and mounting man issues only add to her problems. Bad gets worse when days before she is due to be reelected an eighteen-year-old secret turns her world upside down. Suzanne must make a far-reaching decision for which there is no legal precedent.

Brown Sistahs

Do you like to read, but don't really have anybody with whom to share your fascination with the magical literary power of words? Then pick up a copy of the Brown Sistahs aka BS Book Club's monthly book selection and join Gail and some of her friends for a fun filled BS gathering to discuss the book and life in general. We meet just about every third Sunday of the month as close to 3 p.m. as our busy, versatile schedules will allow. The location remains fluid to keep the mix alive, but currently we’re hanging out at Vino Libro.

Brown Sistahs are taking a brief summer siesta and will return in the fall. All interested prospective members should contact judgesusanwashington@yahoo.com.
